A group of Roxburians are reading this month the Vermont Book Award nominee, The Memoirs of Stockholm Sven, by Nathaniel Ian Miller. We are excited to have the author joining the group for a discussion of the book. We are going to announce the location for the event closer to the 25th. We want to ensure we have appropriate space to accommodate the gathering safely and comfortably. The good news is that you still have plenty of time to get the book and read it before the 25th. No RSVP required. Please contact the RFL with any questions.
Let’s share some goodies amongst the community this holiday season. Please join us on the 4th of Dec. for a children’s toy swap in Roxbury.
Key points of what you need to know:
- Only bring toys and items that are clean and in working condition.
- All toys not exchanged at the close of the event will be donated to local charities.
- COVID safety precautions such as masking and hand sanitation will be in effect for all participants.
Drop off details:
Toys can be brought to the RUCC between 8:00 and 9:00 on the morning of the 4th before the event. You are also welcome to bring some exchange items with you to the event when it opens.
No ticket or exchange protocol is in place. So… Bringing five toys and leaving with one works. Bringing one toy and leaving with five, totally okay. Nothing to share, no worries, come see what you can find to go home with to support the kiddos in your life.
General categories we anticipate having available on the 4th:
Action figures
Arts and crafts
Books
Building( blocks, legos, etc.)
Costume/dress up
Dolls/plush
Games/ puzzles
Infant toys
Music
Outdoor toys
Vehicles
Roxbury’s 8th annual Trunk or Treat is happening on Halloween day. Not sure what Trunk or Treat is? Instead of trick or treating between our scattered Roxbury houses, we all come to a central location (Roxbury Village School parking lot) and trick or treat between our trunks instead. Prizes will be awarded for best costumes and trunk decorations. Start planning yours now! Please bring a canned food item, or two, to support the Roxbury Food Shelf.
4:00 – 4:30 Car setup
4:30 – 5:15 Trunk or Treating
5:15 – 5:30 Costume awards
5:30 Costume parade
RSVP is required for this event. Please RSVP by Thursday 10/27 to librarian@roxburyfreelibrary.org or 485-6860

Sat. the 15th of Oct. we will be treating everyone to a free high energy and fun family magic show with Vermont magician Alyx Hilshey.
Alyx is a nationally touring professional magician and has a consistent record of delighting audiences with wonderful illusion skills. This will be one of those shows where the target audience is anyone between 3 and 103, come one all! Audience members will have time after the show to meet and talk with Alyx. Plus, all the children in the audience will go home with a complimentary magical gift. We are excited for the opportunity to host Alyx and hope many of you will join us for the event.
Please note, depending upon the size of the audience, we may host the event outside of the RFL to more comfortably accommodate the show. Plan on coming to the RFL for the show, and if it is held somewhere else clear directions will inform you where in downtown Roxbury it will be.
No RSVP required, but it is encouraged so we know approximately how many will attend and what the best Roxbury venue will be for the event. Please contact the RFL with any questions.
This event is supported with the generous help from the VT. Dept. of Libraries and RFL donors.
