Outgoing Library Director Letter to the Community

To the Roxbury Free Library community,

Job postings will soon be hanging around town so the time for this letter to reach the community has come.  With opportunity in front of me for other pursuits, I announce here that I will be leaving my current role as Roxbury Free Library director this spring.  My departure from the role of RFL director comes as a bittersweet opportunity.  I will remember fondly the many discussions about great books, special programs, and all the other important ways our library touches the lives of people near and far.  Please accept my sincere thanks for the opportunity to serve the community in this capacity.  Won’t you all join me in making the work of the next director, whoever it may be, easy by stopping by the RFL frequently and checking out lots of books.  The RFL board of trustees undoubtedly has the best interest of the RFL in mind with the work they do and I am confident they will select the best candidate to move the RFL forward with its mission.

In closing, I want to thank the community, trustees, volunteers, and staff for all the support you have provided me and the RFL over the last fourteen years.  During my time as director we saw a lot of change in both the RFL and community (automated library catalog, school district mergers, new parks, global pandemics, school closures, and the occasional facility emergency) and I’m proud that support for the RFL never wavered.  Whether it be yes votes at town meeting approving budgets or lugging boxes of books around, there were always community members there to carry the library along.  I trust that will be the case well into the future and you should know that I will be there to do my part too.  My final ask to the community would be to simply not forget how important the impacts of our library are on our community and all the people directly or tangentially associated with it.  We have a good thing here, thanks for being a part of it with me.

humbly,
Ryan Zajac
